Overview
Mount Kilimanjaro is the world’s highest free-standing mountain. The Mountain, which is located in Tanzania, is known as the “Roof of Africa.” It is 19,341 feet (5,895 meters) tall and has three volcanic cones known as peaks: Kibo peak, Mawenzi peak, and Shira peak.
Kibo is the highest mountain, followed by Mawenzi (16,983 feet (5,149 meters) and Shira (13,000 feet) (3,962 meters). Mawenzi and Shira are both extinct volcanoes. Kibo is dormant, which means it could erupt again despite the fact that the last significant eruption occurred thousands of years ago.
